Why You Shouldn’t Take Your Pet with You on Vacation

Most pet owners can barely stand to be away from their pet for a few hours, let alone days or weeks. For this reason, it may be tempting to bring your pet with you on your summer vacation. And while this may sound like a fun idea at first, there are actually several reasons why you should leave your pet behind.

Pets are not allowed in some hotels

Depending on where you are staying, you may not even be allowed to bring your pet with you. Some hotels and motels don’t even offer it as an option, and many others will charge you an extra fee. If you’re going somewhere far away, you will also have to pay extra to secure your pet a spot on the plane.

It can be stressful for your pet

If your pet has never been on a trip with you before, the experience may be frightening for them. This is especially true if you plan on going out a lot and doing things without your pet. Your pet may experience separation anxiety, especially since they’re in an unfamiliar area.

Your pet may cause damage

If you stay in a hotel or motel, you will be leaving your pet alone in an unfamiliar place, without anyone to take care of them. This will only lead to more opportunities for your pet to cause some type of damage to the place you’re staying, which will lead to an even more expensive trip.

It may be fun for a few hours to have your pet with you, but unless you plan on spending most of the trip by their side, it’s not really worth it. Hiring a pet sitter can actually be much more cost effective, and you and your pet both will probably have a better week.
